20 Workers Feared Trapped After Railway Station Roof Slab Collapses In UP’s Kannauj

An under-construction lintel collapsed at the Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh fell on Saturday afternoon, trapping several workers.

At least 20 workers were feared trapped after an under-construction roof slab of the Kannauj railway station collapsed on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident took place around 2:39 pm today when an under-construction lintel collapsed during beautification work after the shuttering failed. Five workers were injured in the incident and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The local administration has carried out a massive rescue operation in the hopes of bringing the trapped workers to safety. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) were also on the site. Further details are awaited.

“According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when the under-construction shuttering of the roof collapsed,” District Magistrate (DM) Shubhrant Kumar Shukl told news agency PTI. He rushed to the spot along with other senior officials to oversee the rescue operation.

“Our first priority is to rescue the workers who are trapped. We are using all resources at our disposal for the rescue efforts,” he added.
