Perth consulting firm Ralph Beattie Bosworth has been awarded a contract to provide cost planning services for the proposed Women and Babies Hospital at Murdoch.
The contract, awarded by the Department of Health, is expected to cost $7.9 million, according to details on the tenders.wa.gov.au web site.
The hospital is estimated to cost $1.78 billion, with $50 million budgeted to be spent in the current financial year before ramping up in 2026 and beyond.
A joint venture comprising global contractor Webuild and Australian construction company Roberts Co has been selected as managing contractor for the new hospital.
They signed a letter of intent with the state government in December last year.
The project includes two multi-storey car parks at an estimated cost of $204 million.
Georgiou Group has been selected to design and construct the first car park, with work due to commence this year.
Planning for the project includes a Department of Transport study to “reduce congestion and enhance access” to the precinct, which includes Fiona Stanley Hospital.
The recent state election cast uncertainty over the project as then Liberal Party leader Libby Mettam had vowed to shift the project back to its original site at the QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands.
It was two years ago that the Labor government unexpectedly switched the project to Murdoch, claiming construction at the original site would cause too much disruption to existing facilities.
The new facility will replace the ageing King Edwards Memorial Hospital in Subiaco.
Ralph Beattie Bosworth describes itself as Perth’s largest construction cost consultants, aka quantity surveyors.
The firm says it offers “independent and objective advice on methods to budget, monitor and control costs and time involved in building and engineering projects”.
