Karnataka Ex-DGP’s Wife Called Retired IPS Officer’s Spouse After His Murder, Now Under Probe

The wife of Karnataka’s former director general of police Om Prakash, who was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday, is being questioned as the prime suspect in the murder case that has sent shockwaves across the police fraternity.

Om Prakash was found in a pool of blood inside the living room of his home in the upscale HSR Layout area. He had multiple stab wounds on his body, police said.

According to police sources, his wife Pallavi may have killed him and carried out the attack with a kitchen knife. At the time of the incident, their daughter was also in another part of the house, the sources said.

Police sources said Pallavi called the wife of another former DGP and confessed to the crime. The woman, in turn, informed the police by dialling 112. Pallavi was detained shortly after.

“This afternoon, around 4 to 4.30 pm, we received information about the death of former DGP and IGP Om Prakash. His son has been contacted and is in the process of filing a complaint, based on which an FIR will be registered. A detailed investigation will follow. As of now, no arrests have been made,” said Bengaluru additional commissioner of police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have been internal in nature. It appears that a sharp weapon was used, causing significant blood loss that led to his death,” he added.

LONG-STANDING MARITAL DISCORD: FAMILY SOURCES

Initial reports suggest that the murder took place between 4.30 and 5 pm, following an argument between Om Prakash and Pallavi.

Sources close to the family told News18 that there was a long-standing discord between the couple, which had escalated in recent times. Om Prakash was staying away from his family for some years now due to the marital strain, but of late had returned to his house, they said.

The sources further said Pallavi was undergoing treatment for specific health conditions. She had sent cryptic messages to private WhatsApp groups, claiming she feared was being poisoned, they added. But, these claims were unverified and without evidence, police sources said.
