Ayushman Bharat Diwas is a day to commemorate the accomplishments and success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), another name for the Ayushman Bharat scheme.   1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on September 23, 2018.
  2. The government plans to offer more than 50 crore individuals access to inexpensive healthcare through the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The PMJAY program would offer cashless and paperless services.
  3. Families that sign up for the PMJAY program will get health insurance worth up to Rs 5 lakh annually. For secondary and tertiary treatment as well as hospitalisation, around 10.7 crore people receive this health insurance sum.
  4. The WHO and UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agendas are aligned with the PMJAY program.
  5. The UN’s objective to “Leave No One Behind” as a target for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is also reflected in Ayushman Bharat.

  8. The 71st Round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) revealed that 82 per cent of urban families and 85.9 per cent of rural households lacked access to health insurance.
  9. From the beginning of the hospital stay till the post-hospital recovery phase, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana pays for the patients’ expenses.
  10. To carry out the Ayushman Bharat program, 30 states and union territories have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the federal government.
