Jio also added 5 times more active customer additions in FY25 to 20.6 million as compared to Airtel (4.3 million in Q4 FY24). Jio’s total customer base stood at 488.2 million, in comparison to Airtel’s 424 million.
When it comes to customer engagement, Jio again emerged as the clear winner. Its per capita data consumption rose 17.4% YoY to 33.5 GB/month, compared to Airtel’s 11.1% YoY growth, reaching 25.1 GB/month. Even in voice usage, Airtel remained flat with just 0.4% YoY growth, while Jio clocked a 3% rise. Jio is leading in customer engagement and heavy data usage.
Jio’s dominance is also evident in the fixed-line segment. Jio added 6.4 million new homes in FY25, against Airtel’s 2.4 million. In the fast-growing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) category, Jio added 5 million customers, compared to Airtel’s 1.1 million. Jio is outperforming Airtel in fixed-line segment by 2x-5x.
Despite muted topline growth, Airtel’s India EBITDA rose 2.9% QoQ. This improvement was largely supported by a 16.3% YoY increase in lease adjustments, which contributed Rs 12,928 crore in FY25 compared to Rs 7,412 crore in FY24. Airtel’s total lease liability now stands at Rs 54,000 crore.
