A three-year-old boy has died, and his father is in hospital with serious injuries, after a fire tore through a family home in Melbourne’s west just after midnight on Monday morning.
Emergency services discovered the body of three-year-old Jordan Dashwood inside the burning home on Newbury Street in Werribee. They had arrived within three minutes of being called to a single-storey brick veneer house on fire, with reports that multiple children were trapped inside.
The Age understands that Jordan was at home with his parents and 11-year-old brother when the fire broke out. Two older siblings were not at home at the time.
Jordan’s father Jeremy Dashwood, 40, reportedly smashed a window to get back into the house to save his son, but came out again on fire.
Police say the circumstances of the fire are being investigated, and an arson chemist will attend the scene.
“Sadly, a resident of the home died at the scene, and a second resident remains in hospital with serious injuries,” Senior Constable Paul Hogan said on ABC radio.
The age of the dead person is yet to be officially confirmed by authorities. However, firefighters reported a 40-year-old man was treated for burns.
