Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 59,090 units in May 2026, up 42 per cent from 41,557 units in May 2025. Export sales increased 45 per cent to 700 units, compared to 483 units in the corresponding period last year.
The automaker said its sales momentum remained strong during the month, with wholesale dispatches growing 42 per cent year-on-year while vehicle registrations, as per Vahan data, surged by more than 50 per cent. Tata Motors stated that it has further consolidated its position as the country’s second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, both in wholesale dispatches and retail registrations.
A major highlight of the month was the company’s performance in the electric vehicle segment. Tata Motors recorded its highest-ever monthly EV sales, with combined domestic and international EV volumes reaching 10,517 units, an increase of 85 per cent over 5,685 units sold in May 2025.
The company also reported a sharp rise in customer interest for electric vehicles, with EV bookings increasing 3.5 times year-on-year. Tata Motors attributed the growth to increasing customer acceptance of EVs and the strong market response to its expanding electric vehicle lineup.
The company’s EV momentum was led by the Punch.ev and Nexon.ev, which continued to strengthen Tata Motors’ presence in the sub-15 lakh EV segment. The two models also played a crucial role in driving overall sales volumes, with the Punch and Nexon nameplates recording monthly sales of around 20,000 units and 19,000 units, respectively.
Tata Motors said its multi-powertrain strategy is gaining traction among customers, with strong demand across both ICE and EV models. The company highlighted that its new-generation products have received a positive market response, helping it expand its customer base while maintaining leadership in India’s electric mobility market.
