Cody Weightman is back.
After 637 days, five surgeries and an infection that wiped him out for the entire 2025 season, the Bulldogs forward will make his return to the AFL against Hawthorn on Friday night.
It’s a much-needed boost for the Dogs who have struggled with injury so far this season, but Weightman’s return comes at a time when the cavalry is coming back for the Dogs.
The 25-year-old, who was placed on the inactive list in 2025, won’t make his return through the VFL, having been brought straight into the senior side.

Coach Luke Beveridge spoke of Weightman’s influence on the group during the week.
“He’s been getting through a lot more training, which is very, very encouraging,” Beveridge said per the club’s website
“You know what, I think we forget what sort of player Cody is. He’s just such an influential player for us, so to miss him for a whole year and then the prospect of him maybe playing again is quite exciting for us.”

At one point in his nearly two years out of the game, Weightman had nine litres of antibiotics flushed through his knee to get rid of an infection.
The small forward has played 76 games and kicked 126 goals for the Bulldogs.
