A man is in critical condition after allegedly being stabbed by a group of teenagers and stumbling into a nearby sports bar for help.
Emergency services were called to the Hargreaves Street venue in the central Victorian town of Bendigo about 9pm on Thursday.
It followed reports an injured man had stumbled into the bar with suspected stab wounds.
The 41-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital in serious condition.
Police believe the man had been sleeping rough and was set upon by up to six offenders following an altercation in nearby Bath Lane.
It is alleged the offenders, believed to be teenagers, fled the scene and left the injured man to search for help.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, after a preliminary search was unable to find the offenders.
Detectives are expected to revisit the area on Friday morning.
