A 40-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district died while lying beside the graves of his wife and six-year-old son, just 11 days after they passed away, in a tragedy that has left three children orphaned and an entire community in mourning.
Subhan Ahmad, a resident of Harpalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was found unconscious in a graveyard in Charkhari town early Friday morning. Family members who went searching for him discovered him lying in a prayer-like posture, with one hand resting on his young son’s grave and the other on his wife’s grave. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The heartbreaking incident comes less than two weeks after the family suffered a double tragedy. On May 25, Subhan’s six-year-old son, Hasnain, reportedly died due to the intense heatwave sweeping the region. The shock proved too much for his mother, Rajiya Khatun, who is said to have collapsed and died shortly after learning of her son’s death.
Relatives say Subhan was devastated by the loss of his wife and youngest child. Unable to overcome the grief, he frequently visited their graves and struggled to cope with the tragedy that had shattered his family.
According to family members, Subhan left home before dawn on Friday and headed to the graveyard. When he did not return for nearly two hours, relatives went looking for him. What they found left them stunned — Subhan lying motionless between the two graves he had visited countless times since their deaths.
While the exact cause of his death remains unclear, relatives said a mark was found on his leg, raising the possibility that he may have been bitten by a venomous insect while at the graveyard. Others believe the overwhelming emotional trauma and stress may have contributed to his death. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the precise cause.
The three deaths within 11 days have plunged the family into unimaginable grief. Subhan leaves behind three children — 17-year-old Saif, 14-year-old Roshni and 11-year-old Aliya — who have now lost both parents and a sibling in less than two weeks.
The tragedy has shocked residents of Charkhari and nearby areas, with many calling for government assistance to help support the orphaned children as they face an uncertain future.
