National Award-winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar was cremated with State honours at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam, on Sunday. During the funeral, his son Chandu was seen urging paparazzi to move back and give the family space to mourn, with videos of the emotional moment quickly circulating on social media.

Viral videos show Chandu becoming visibly upset as media personnel gathered close to the area where family members were paying their last respects. He was seen asking camera crews to move back as the crowd around the actor’s mortal remains continued to grow.

The funeral drew a large number of mourners, including members of the Malayalam film fraternity. Actors Meera Jasmine and Sandeep Pradeep were among those who attended to bid farewell to the veteran performer.

Salim Kumar died on Saturday, leaving the Malayalam film industry and his fans in mourning. The Government of Kerala later confirmed the news and expressed its condolences in an official statement.

The state government described him as a celebrated figure in Malayalam cinema and highlighted his achievements as an actor.

Among his many accolades was the National Film Award for Best Actor, which he won for his performance in Adaminte Makan Abu. He had earlier received the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for Achanurangatha Veedu.

Known for seamlessly moving between comedy and serious roles, Salim Kumar built a career that spanned decades and earned him a special place in Malayalam cinema. His performances resonated with audiences across generations, making him one of the industry’s most recognisable and respected actors.
