A young man has been arrested and his vehicle impounded after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through Melbourne’s outer west.
The 21-year-old man was allegedly spotted driving a white BMW SUV by a Highway Patrol unit in Hoppers Crossing just before 11pm on June 3 before police say he sped away.
A chase ensued, and the BMW allegedly reached speeds of 123km/h in a 60km/h zone.
“The Air Wing tracked the vehicle to an address in Hoppers Crossing and observed the driver allegedly get out and speak to someone before taking off on foot,” police said.
“Footage shows the man jump over several fences before being spotted by officers on the ground and arrested.”
At one point in the footage the man leaps over a fence as a dog tries to chase him down.
After he was arrested, a further search by officers allegedly uncovered a knife and cannabis.
The man is among 16 people who were arrested during a two-night proactive policing blitz that led to the laying of 106 charges, the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the seizing of six weapons.
