Advance bookings for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey opened for IMAX shows across India on June 8, and the first round of sales quickly shifted the focus to ticket prices. In Mumbai and Pune, premium seats were listed at up to Rs 3,000, with some late-night shows in Mumbai going up to Rs 3,300, making them some of the costliest cinema tickets currently on sale in the country.

The high rates did not slow demand. Several shows saw brisk bookings, with seats disappearing within minutes. At the same time, the sharp gap in prices across cities led to debate online, with many fans questioning why the same film experience could cost several times more depending on the city and show timing.

Some also pointed out that while the film was shot entirely using IMAX cameras, most theatres in India are not equipped to screen it in IMAX 70mm, a format closely associated with Nolan’s films.

Fans reacted strongly on X as bookings opened. One user wrote, “#TheOdyssey sees the HIGHEST TICKET PRICING ever in India – 3000 at Pune IMAX. Christopher Nolan is a HUGE BRAND here! (sic).”

A second user said, “The craze of The Odyssey in India is insane …. The ticket sold out in just minutes… This is happens when no cast and director come to India for promotion. This is the legacy of Christopher Nolan : Name is enough to sell the tickets.(sic)”

Another user posted, ‘Today PVR and Cinepolis turned Pune in Monaco (sic).’
