Dennis Hopper’s ghost returned to haunt his ex-wife Katherine LaNasa after his death.
The Pitt star was married to the Hollywood actor between 1989 and 1992 and she is convinced Hopper tracked her down from beyond the grave following his passing in 2010 at the age of 74 – even though they had been divorced for 18 years.
LaNasa told W magazine: “I do believe in ghosts. The ghost of Dennis Hopper would not leave me alone for a really long time. We’ve been divorced a very long time, but I was the last wife that he’d been with that he wasn’t currently divorcing, so I think that level of intimacy when you’re dying is maybe only something you can do with a partner?”
Hopper was married five times in all and had been in the process of divorcing his fifth wife Victoria Duffy at the time of his death.
LaNasa – who plays Nurse Dana Evans in HBO Max medical drama The Pitt – went on to reveal she was left terrified after one particular encounter with the spirit of her dead ex-husband,
She told the publication: “He came one time looking like when he was at the Academy Awards – he was in a wheelchair, and it was super upsetting. I told him he had to leave me alone.”
The actress added: “He used to come over me in a sweat and I told him he had to leave me alone, and then he did. And then I felt really weird about it.”
LaNasa went on to reveal her late ex eventually sent her a sign that he would not be haunting her any more.
She explained: “And then the day that I told someone how weird I felt about it, I walked home an odd way and ran into a gallery that had all of his photographs up, and a photograph of him in the very back of the gallery with a fedora on winking at the camera … [I felt it meant he was] letting me go.”
However, Hopper returned one more time to visit her in a dream.
She said: “We were both in a cafeteria in Greece, and he told me that he was okay and that he wasn’t in pain anymore and he was good.
“And I never heard from him again.”
