India suffered an injury scare during their Women’s T20 World Cup clash against the Netherlands after all-rounder Shreyanka Patil hurt her ankle in a freak on-field incident at Headingley, Leeds, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the very first ball of the sixth over of the Dutch innings. Bowling around the wicket, Shreyanka delivered a floated ball on middle stump that Phebe Molkenboer nudged into the leg side. After a half-stop from the midwicket fielder, Shreyanka sprinted across to prevent any further runs but landed awkwardly while attempting to gather the ball.

The youngster immediately went down in pain, clutching her right ankle as concerned teammates rushed towards her. Medical staff were quickly called onto the field and spent several minutes assessing the injury. The situation appeared serious as Shreyanka was unable to put any weight on her right leg.
In a worrying sight for India, the 22-year-old was eventually stretchered off the field in a buggy, casting doubt over her availability for the remainder of the tournament. With Shreyanka unable to continue, Shafali Verma stepped in to complete the over.
India will now await the results of further medical assessments, hoping the injury is not as serious as it initially appeared, especially with crucial matches still to come in the tournament.
