After months of divorce headlines, reports of family tension and claims his daughters had sided with Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban has made a public move few saw coming.
The country music star has extended what many fans will see as an olive branch to his ex-wife, posting a heartfelt birthday message to Kidman despite the pair’s highly publicised split earlier this year.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Urban shared a simple but striking tribute to mark Kidman’s 59th birthday.
“Happy birthday, Nicole Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The message, posted against a blue and purple background, quickly attracted attention given the former couple’s recent history.
Urban and Kidman finalised their divorce in January, bringing an end to their 19-year marriage. Court documents revealed the pair agreed to waive claims for child and spousal support, while their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, would spend the majority of their time with Kidman.
Since then, reports of family tensions have continued to swirl around the former Hollywood power couple.
In April, Sunday briefly unfollowed Urban on Instagram before re-following him hours later, fuelling speculation about the family’s post-divorce dynamics.
Further reports claimed Sunday and Faith had sided with their mother following the split, with one source claiming Urban had been left devastated by the situation.
“He loves those girls, but they are so angry at him and they’re blaming him,” the insider said.
Against that backdrop, Urban’s birthday message appeared to signal a desire to keep relations cordial despite the upheaval.
Kidman did not publicly respond to the tribute but appeared to acknowledge Urban on Father’s Day just 24 hours later.
The Oscar-winning actress shared a throwback photograph of Urban carrying Sunday and Faith on his shoulders alongside a childhood photo with her late father, Antony Kidman.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers,” she wrote.
The exchange offered a rare glimpse into the former couple’s relationship months after their separation, suggesting the pair may be attempting to navigate their new family dynamic publicly and respectfully.
The birthday post also came as Kidman celebrated with family, friends and fans from around the world.
Sharing a photograph of herself outdoors enjoying the sunshine, the actress reflected on turning 59.
“Another trip around the sun. Thank you for all the birthday love xx #SummerSolsticeBaby,” she wrote.
Among those sending birthday wishes were fellow stars Natalie Portman, Mariska Hargitay, Kerry Washington and Michelle Pfeiffer.
