It’s rare for the WA Police homicide squad to have an unsolved murder case on their books. In fact, the last time it happened was 10 years ago, when Melville grandmother Valeria Fermendjin was killed inside her home.

Erica Coyne.

But today, authorities have revealed the violent murders of a mother and son in Albany in February this year remain unsolved, with a $1 million reward offered for information that leads to catching their killer.

Erica Coyne, 69, was found dead inside her Burville Street unit in Spencer Park around 3pm on February 8.

Her son, Lloyd Mitchell, 50, was found critically injured inside the same unit, and died weeks later.

Several appeals to the public by investigators have so far failed to provide any clues to what happened to the pair.

The murder weapon is also yet to be found.

After spending six weeks in a Perth quarantine facility, the six passengers from the hantavirus-stricken cruise ship are finally making their way home.

The group, made up of five Australians and one New Zealander, left the Centre for National Resilience in Bullsbrook just before 4am this morning and headed to the airport together in a mini bus.

None ever tested positive for the virus, or displayed any symptoms during their 42 days in isolation.

One man spoke to 9 News Perth as he prepared to board his flight home.

Several environment groups have called on the federal government to establish an additional fund for national wildlife resilience – $200 million over the next two years – to help protect the estimated 12,000 Australia sea lions remaining in the wild, and other species, from the disease.

Meanwhile, Virginia Giuffre’s former lawyer and her carer, who are locked in a battle with her sons over her multimillion-dollar estate, are concerned about money being withdrawn from a family trust controlled by her estranged husband, Robert Giuffre.

The issue was aired during a case management conference before registrar Danielle Davies in the Supreme Court of Western Australia on Monday, where administrative matters were discussed before an expected mediation later this year or next year.
