Kelsey Grammer “would consider” entering politics.

The 71-year-old actor has “wrestled with” the idea of running for office as it will fulfil his sense of service to the US after not being chosen to serve in the Vietnam War despite having registered for the draft.

He told Us Weekly: “I would consider it. It would possibly tick that box for me, in terms of the service I feel I should have given to my fellow man – to my fellow countrymen – that I missed in the military.

“Maybe that would be the way to do it. I have wrestled with it.”

However, Kelsey’s ambitions are on hold as he wants to be present for his eight children.

The Frasier star said: “I have a young family. I don’t want to be an absentee dad, so I put it on hold a little bit, but I do intend to live for quite a while.”

But he is open to entering politics later in life.

Kelsey said: “I’m still pretty vital, and numbers may tell one story that maybe most people wouldn’t understand. … I’m vital and prepared to stay that way for quite a while, and yes, it’s likely I will at least throw my hat in the ring in some way.”

Although the Cheers alum “breathed a sigh of relief” that he did not serve in the Vietnam War, he has since had regret that he did not serve his country in some way.

Kelsey said: “There were people – my peers, young people my age – who went and died there. I always thought there was a kind of sense of personal deficit in my own life, in my life story, that I didn’t serve in the military because my father had, my grandfather had, but in the circumstances of Vietnam and my generation, it was less attractive in some ways.

“I breathed a sigh of relief, and I didn’t go, and now I have a sense of regret that I should have served in some way anyway.”

The Simpsons voice actor thinks he has a plan to bring about change for his country.

Kelsey said: “I think you gotta make good suggestions, have good ideas, follow through with them, bring along a crowd of people that actually believe in something positive and love each other.

“And you can then make a difference.”

The Boss cast member has daughter, Spencer, 42, with his first wife, 70-year-old actress Doreen Alderman.

He has another daughter, Greer, 34, with his ex-girlfriend, Barrie Buckner.

Kelsey had daughter Mason, 24, and son Jude, 21, with his second wife, 57-year-old model-and-actress Camille Grammer.

The Down Periscope entertainer has daughter Faith, 13, and sons Gabriel, 11, James, nine, and Christopher, eight months, with his current spouse, 47-year-old Kayte Walsh.
