A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran came under fresh strain on Friday after US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of launching a drone attack on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that one cargo vessel was hit while three other drones were intercepted by US forces.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Iran launched four “One Way Attack Drones” at ships transiting the strategic waterway, calling the alleged strike “a foolish violation” of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries. His statement came as tensions remained high despite recent diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote.
“One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship. Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way,” he added.
Trump further claimed that US forces intercepted the remaining drones.
“We knocked down three other Drones. Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” the president wrote.
Trump did not identify the vessel allegedly struck, nor did he provide further details about casualties or the extent of the damage.
