Brisbane got a timely reminder of their superpowers before taking on arguably the AFL’s toughest task, ruckman Darcy Fort says.

Fort and his Lions teammates are buoyed ahead of meeting modern-day rivals the Cats in Geelong on Thursday night.

The ruckman says Brisbane enter the pivotal fixture full of confidence after dismantling flag-fancies Sydney by 43 points last week.

“It is just great to see what our best footy looks like,” Fort said.

“We probably hadn’t found it for a few weeks and earlier in the season, but last weekend was really encouraging for the rest of the year.

“You’re definitely always looking to improve.

“We have taken a lot of the right steps in the last couple of weeks, but I think our best footy is ahead of us.”

Geelong have been bolstered by the return of star duo Tom Stewart and Bailey Smith to meet an unchanged Lions outfit.

Brisbane, chasing a third consecutive premiership, sit in fifth spot ahead of the rematch of last year’s grand final against the fourth-placed Cats.

Both clubs have nine wins and six losses, but the Cats boast a considerable home-ground advantage: they are on a 10-game winning streak in Geelong.

The last team to beat them there? Brisbane, in round 16 last year.

“We have had a great few hit-outs with them in the last couple of years, obviously the grand final last year,” Fort said.

“They’re always very close games, so looking forward to it. It’s always a tough contest against Geelong, and we’re ready for the fight.”
