Nine Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from the premises of Bhagabangola railway station in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district during a police operation against illegal infiltration, officials said.

According to police, the arrests were made following a tip-off that several suspected Bangladeshi nationals were moving around the station area.

Acting on the information, a team led by Bhagabangola Police Station conducted a raid at the railway station and detained the suspects for questioning. During interrogation, the individuals were identified as Bangladeshi nationals and were subsequently arrested, police said.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the detainees had been working in different parts of India and were allegedly planning to return to Bangladesh clandestinely. Police suspect they were attempting to leave the country before they could be apprehended.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested individuals and launched a detailed investigation into the case.

Police are probing how the accused entered India, who may have provided them shelter or employment, and the duration of their stay in the country. Investigators are also examining whether any larger illegal infiltration or human trafficking network was involved.

Further investigation is underway.
