A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl from his neighbourhood in Ahmedabad’s Vatva area after luring her to his house on the pretext of preparing tea. The accused, identified as Imtiyaz Sheikh, is married and a father of four.

Sheikh allegedly sexually assaulted the minor and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Following a complaint filed by the survivor’s family, police arrested the accused and initiated further investigation.

According to police, the incident took place in the Char Maliya locality of Vatva, where the survivor lives with her family.

Sheikh, who resided nearby, reportedly approached the girl’s mother and told her that no one was at his home. He requested that she send her daughter to prepare tea for him, prompting the unsuspecting mother to allow the minor to go to the neighbour’s house.

Police said the girl first prepared tea as instructed. Sheikh then allegedly sent her to a nearby shop to buy snacks. When she returned, he allegedly molested and raped the minor inside the house.

Investigators said the accused subsequently threatened the 13-year-old, warning her not to disclose the assault to anyone or face serious consequences.

When the child failed to return home after a long time, her mother went to Sheikh’s residence to check on her, and brought her back.

Although she reportedly sensed that something was amiss, the survivor did not reveal the alleged assault that day because of the fear instilled by the accused.

The following day, on July 1, the girl gathered the courage to narrate the assault to her mother.

The family then approached the Vatva police station and lodged a complaint against Sheikh. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police arrested the accused, who is married and the father of four children.

A case has been registered against Sheikh under the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway, they said.
