ClearVue Technologies has added another layer of international validation to its solar glass platform after its Gen 3 Vision Glass secured three top-level global certifications from independent testing group TÜV SÜD.

The Perth-based smart building materials company says its transparent solar glass has been awarded the coveted IECEE CB, CE and TÜV MARK Safety certifications after a comprehensive independent testing program covering photovoltaic performance, durability, electrical safety and long-term reliability.

ClearVue Technologies Gen 3 solar Vision Glass has secured multiple global certifications after independent testing.

Importantly, the IECEE CB Certificate is recognised across more than 50 participating economies, significantly streamlining regulatory approvals in overseas jurisdictions.

The CE mark provides mandatory access to European Union markets, while the TÜV MARK offers globally recognised independent confirmation of product quality, safety and reliability.

‘These certifications are further evidence of our ability to design, manufacture and certify world-leading products.’

ClearVue Technologies managing director Douglas (Doug) Hunt

Unlike conventional rooftop solar, ClearVue’s patented technology converts transparent glazing into electricity-generating building materials without significantly compromising visibility, allowing windows, façades, skylights, balustrades and cladding to become active power generators.

The latest wins build on an already impressive run of certifications through June for ClearVue, including an Australian and New Zealand Grade A safety glazing classification across its double-glass product suite and a European EN 1279-5 tick for its Gen 3 insulated glass unit design.

While certifications rarely set the market alight on their own, these three approvals represent a major commercial milestone. Internationally recognised certification is often a prerequisite for architects, façade engineers, developers, regulators and building owners to specify a product, providing independent proof that it has met rigorous global standards for performance, durability and safety.

Its earlier AS/NZS 2208:2023 certification also covered vision glass, solar skylight, solar balustrade, solar cladding and solar spandrel products, while EN 1279-5 testing validated the company’s patented cable-through-seal design for double-glazed units.

The latest program has certified ClearVue’s Gen 3 Vision Glass to IEC 61215:2021 and IEC 61730:2023 standards, which test solar panel performance, durability and electrical safety. It covers four product variants, ranging from nine watts to a powerful 336-watt model, using Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact photovoltaic cells.

The certified Gen 3 products use the company’s proprietary thermal bridge junction box and feature frameless single-glazed and double-glazed construction, Class II electrical protection, a maximum system voltage of 1000 volts DC and a UL790 Class A fire rating.

ClearVue Technologies managing director Douglas Hunt said: “International certifications are always significant milestones for ClearVue, but what makes this achievement truly important is the standard we set for ourselves long before we entered the certification process. Our engineering objective was never simply to pass the international standards.”

Management says the company has tested its products to beyond twice the cycling requirements of the standards, simulating well over 25 years of normal weathering in the built environment.

It also says the recent AS/NZS 2208 and EN 1279-5 results address safety glass delamination and insulated glass unit sealing tests, both of which have been frequent failure points in some legacy building-integrated photovoltaic installations elsewhere in the world.

With another raft of testing hurdles cleared, ClearVue has put a stronger certification spine behind its pitch that the power-generating windows, façades and other building surfaces do more than create a pleasing ambience.

For a company chasing global construction markets, the internationally recognised safety paper trail now carries serious weight.
