Inde Navarrette hopes Curry Barker doesn’t write a direct sequel to Obsession.

The 25-year-old actress, who has become a breakout star after playing Nikki Freeman in the surprise horror hit, has insisted while she “would love to” work on another scary movie, she likes the idea of Obsession being one and done.

She told Nylon magazine: “I think the beautiful thing about it is that there is no sequel.

“I think it’d be cool if Curry did the anthology series that he was talking about, where each is a different wish.

“Then I could watch and not get scared by myself.”

She has reportedly met with Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier, who is working on Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot.

Navarrett revealed she “would” do a Marvel film in the future, while she is excited about her next project.

She explained: “I’m really stoked about a film I’m doing in September because I really like working with first-time directors.

“And what I really love is this idea of suspense/thriller/horror and what falls under the umbrella of the worst feelings that you could ever feel.

“How do those stories get told? Horror does that really beautifully with shame and trauma.”

Navarrette is also keen to “prove that Obsession wasn’t just lightning in a bottle”.

She added: “This is something that I really love and want to continue doing, but of course that’s going to take time.

“I want people to take that time to trust that I have that capability.

“I also want to fall on my face publicly and have something that people don’t like [but] maybe I do. [laughs] So, I’m looking forward to that.”

Navarrette has been praised by critics and horror fans alike for her breakout role, which follows early TV appearances in the likes of 13 Reasons Way, and Superman and Lois.

It’s said she’s also met with Heat filmmaker Michael Mann, who is currently casting the sequel to his 1995 crime thriller.

Obsession has grossed $400 million at the global box office after being made for just $750,000.

Navarrette previously insisted she would “absolutely” return for a sequel, but likes the idea of the story having been told.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “I absolutely would, but I really love the idea that it’s kind of left there.

“It’s like a memory, whenever you look back to yourself at like 24, 23, 22 those are all chunks, and they begin and end at a certain point.

“I think that’s kind of like this story. It begins and it ends, and then it’s new Nikki, if you will.”
