A woman in her 70s has died after a fierce unit fire tore through an apartment block in Sydney’s southeast on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Alison Rd at Randwick shortly after 3pm when flames were seen pouring from the windows of a first-floor unit.
Firefighters rushed into the apartment as they worked to contain the blaze, which is understood to have started in the kitchen.
The woman was found unconscious inside the unit.
Paramedics attempted to revive her, but she could not be saved.
Two other people were assessed by paramedics, including at least one resident who was treated for smoke inhalation.
A crime scene was established and road closures remained in place for most of the afternoon.
