Mark Consuelos got a sign from his late dad at Mexico’s World Cup game against England.

The 55-year-old star’s father Saul Consuelos, who was Mexican, died in March aged 87 following a long illness, and so Mark and his brother decided to pay tribute to their dad’s roots by travelling to the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City for the team’s last-16 game against England, which the Three Lions won 3-2.

Speaking on Live with Kelly and Mark, he said: “My dad, he passed away in March, and he was such a Mexico fan, and he would be so happy.

“So my brother and I are like, ‘Let’s go make a pilgrimage, let’s go see if we can try to make this game,’ and we threw it together at the last second.”

Once they arrived, the game was delayed by an hour “because of the fierce lightning storm”.

Mark continued: “We’re sitting there, and the rain stopped, and all of a sudden this little butterfly flew on my arm…”

His wife and co-star Kelly Ripa, also 55, added: “And then flew on your brother’s arm.

And then I called Elsa and she’s like, ‘There’s no butterflies in Azteca.’ She’s like, ‘There’s no way. That’s Mark’s dad. That’s Mark’s dad, he came to visit them.’ ”

Mark admitted he and his brother “felt him there”, and Kelly was glad they shared such a powerful moment.

She said: “I’m so happy that you two got to do that and that you had that time together, and I feel like your dad was there with you.”

Mark previously revealed he endured a “brutal” five-month period ahead of his father’s death.

Speaking on the I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario podcast, he said: “I lost my father five weeks ago. It was kind of a brutal five-month saga leading up to him passing.

“I knew it was happening. We all knew this is going to happen.”

Mark told how he prayed for a “merciful exit” for his dad, and Saul passed away “very quickly and painlessly”.

The Riverdale actor also told how much he “misses” his late father.

He added: “My father’s a mythical character to me.

“He’s the best man I’ve ever met. Everything good that I’ve kind of glommed onto of how I carry myself comes from him.

“I guess what I haven’t said is, I miss my dad.

“I’ve never said that. I’ve never said, ‘I miss my dad.’ Because he’s always been in my life. He’s always been available to me.”
