A woman, her lover and his associate have been arrested for murdering her husband in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district. Police said technical evidence, including mobile phone records, helped crack the murder case.

Sanjay Mishra, in Panna district, went missing on July 1. After his family failed to trace him, they informed the police. Following the missing person complaint, Kishangarh police launched a search operation in nearby forest areas.

Police recovered Sanjay Mishra’s body from a forest near an under-construction bridge. His motorcycle was found abandoned a short distance away. After the postmortem, police registered a murder case and began an investigation.

Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha formed a special investigation team to probe the case. The team examined evidence from the crime scene, analysed call detail records and mobile location data, and questioned family members.

During the investigation, police found that the victim’s wife, Anita Mishra, had a relationship with Vinod Yadav. According to police, Anita and Vinod spoke more than 200 times over the phone the day after the incident. The call records and other technical evidence led investigators to suspect Anita’s involvement.

During questioning, police alleged that Anita confessed to conspiring with her lover Vinod Yadav and his associate Satish Yadav to kill her husband. According to police officer Kamaljeet Singh, Sanjay Mishra had become an obstacle to Anita’s relationship with Vinod.

Police said Anita sent Sanjay to attend a wedding at a relative’s house on her maternal side and the three accused murdered him in a forest on the way. They dumped his body beneath an under-construction bridge to make the crime appear as a missing person case or another incident.

Police arrested Anita Mishra, Vinod Yadav and Satish Yadav. Based on the accused persons’ disclosures, police recovered the motorcycle, mobile phones and other evidence used in the crime.

The three accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
