Another person has died on West Australian roads overnight, with officers from WA Police’s major crash investigation section calling for any information about a single-vehicle crash in the state’s Wheatbelt.
A grey Toyota Fortuner crashed on Midlands Road, near the intersection of Balarong Road, about 6.15pm on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson said the 31-year-old man driving the car died at the scene. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
The news comes a week after warnings that WA is on track to record more than 200 road deaths for the first time since 2008.
Here’s what’s making news elsewhere today:
Good morning readers, and welcome to our live news blog for Thursday, July 9.
Making headlines today is grim news for the state’s renters, with new research showing Perth tenants are now paying record prices for rentals, cementing the market as the third-most expensive in the country.
WA residents are now paying $150 more per week than those seeking to rent a home in Melbourne, while units have also risen to a median price of $700 per week.
However, Domain’s latest Rent Report revealed on Thursday that despite the high prices across Western Australia, the market has risen significantly slower than other states.
