Actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner has received a posthumous Emmy nomination for his guest appearance in Season 4 of FX’s The Bear. The nomination, announced on Wednesday, marks the legendary actor’s first acting Emmy recognition since 1978, when he won for his performance in All in the Family.

Reiner has been nominated in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for playing Albert Schnurr, a restaurant and business consultant who helps Ebraheim, portrayed by Edwin Lee Gibson, understand the business of franchising.

The nomination marks Reiner’s first acting Emmy nod in nearly five decades. He first received an Emmy nomination for playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic in All in the Family in 1972 and went on to earn four more nominations for the role, winning twice. In 1978, he won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the iconic sitcom.

Reiner was also recognised at the Emmys in 2024, earning nominations for directing and producing the Albert Brooks documentary Defending My Life.

This year, he will compete alongside Michael J. Fox (Shrinking), Brett Goldstein (Shrinking), Hamish Linklater (Widow’s Bay), Christopher McDonald (Hacks) and Connor Storrie (Saturday Night Live) in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Best known as the director of acclaimed films such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap, Reiner also made a recent guest appearance in Larry David’s HBO series Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, portraying George Washington.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail while awaiting trial in Los Angeles.

The 2026 Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday during a live ceremony from the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center. Mariska Hargitay will host the 2026 Emmy Awards, which will air live on NBC and Peacock on September 14.
