Triple Eight star Broc Feeney is a hot chance to post back-to-back wins in Perth after nabbing pole position for Sunday’s 200km Supercars showdown at Wanneroo Raceway.
Feeney clinched his first pole since May when he pipped Cam Waters by just 0.05 of a second in the Top 10 Shootout.
Championship leader Matt Payne was third fastest, with Ryan Wood and hometown hero Brodie Kostecki rounding out the top five.
Feeney endured a disappointing start to the Supercars leg in Perth, finishing seventh in race one on Saturday to extend Triple Eight’s run without a podium finish to seven races – the longest drought the powerhouse team have endured in 20 years.
But Feeney turned his fortunes around in Saturday’s second race, overtaking Payne on lap 28 before roaring to his fifth victory of the season.
Although Payne will enter Sunday’s race with a 107-point lead at the top of the championship table, second-placed Feeney has regained his mojo and will be aiming to convert his pole position into another win.
“It’s just so good to be back fighting up the front again,” Feeney said after snaring his first pole since the Tasmania Super 440 in May.
“I’ve been working hard, and to finally get rewarded for that is a great feeling.
“There’s a lot of fast guys up the front. I think it’s going to be an exciting race.
“Hopefully we will get a good start and tick our boxes.”
Waters, Wood and Kostecki also loom as big threats in Sunday’s race.
Defending Supercars champion Chaz Mostert (12th), 2024 Supercars champion Will Brown (19th) and rising star Kai Allen (23rd) will have to do things the hard way after failing to crack the top 10 in qualifying.
