The next wave of Aussie stars is set for the subcontinent.
Australia will deploy a 16-strong under-19 squad in India next month for a multi-format series in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
Led by former Australian Test coach Tim Nielsen, the squad will play three 50-over matches and two red-ball fixtures against India’s under-19s.
Australia has frequently taken on India in a similar tour, exposing its best young talent to the world’s most challenging conditions.
The tour will start on September 13 and run through to October 9.
Will Byrom and Kasey Barton will put their hands up to spearhead the attack, while Neel Patel will likely be the rock at the top of the order.
Victorian batter Jack Czosnek missed all of last summer recovering from an ACL injury, but has made up for lost runs in Darwin grade cricket this winter.
Cricket Australia head of national development Sonya Thompson said the tour would offer “valuable experience” for the nation’s best young talent.
“We believe this group has the talent, resilience and character to represent Australia strongly, and this tour will provide an outstanding opportunity for our players to continue their development,” Thompson said.
“Touring India will be a valuable experience for these aspiring cricketers. Playing against high-quality opposition in challenging conditions will test our players both technically and mentally across formats.”
Nielsen will be a familiar face to a number of players, having coached the Aussie under-19s to the World Cup semi-final last summer.
“We are also delighted to have Tim Nielsen leading the program,” Thompson said.
“Tim brings a wealth of coaching experience and has a deep understanding of player development with him.”
