Often, the greatest inspiration in life stems from the suffering of a loved one. The story of Sagar Regar, a resident of Godlyahedi village near the town of Kaithoon in Kota, is one such example. Raised amid financial hardship, limited resources, and constant struggle, Sagar not only dreamed of becoming a doctor but also took a significant step toward turning that dream into reality.

His journey is rooted in his family’s struggles, an unwavering belief in education, and a determination to bring about social change.
Sagar Regar secured 564 marks in NEET-UG, achieving a percentile of 98.6296. He obtained an All India Rank (AIR) of 27,157 and an AIR of 684 in the SC category. Sagar completed his early education at the Government School in Kaithoon, scoring 76% in Class 10 and 92% in Class 12.
Sagar shares that he comes from a large family where most members are illiterate. Due to a lack of education and awareness, several family members have fallen prey to substance abuse. His cousin (his paternal aunt’s daughter) developed cancer after consuming gutkha (chewing tobacco) for a prolonged period.
This incident deeply affected him and strengthened his resolve to become a doctor. He says that after becoming a doctor, he wants not only to treat patients but also to raise awareness among his family and the younger generation about the importance of education and a drug-free life, ensuring that no other family has to endure such suffering.
A LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITY
Sagar recalls that his family’s financial condition was so difficult that his father had clearly told him they could not afford the expenses of medical entrance exam preparation. At this crucial stage, the principal of the Government School in Kaithoon guided him and informed him about the Shiksha Sambal Yojana (Education Support Scheme). Encouraged by his principal, Sagar appeared for the selection exam, qualified for the scheme, and that became the turning point in his life.
Under the scheme, he received free NEET coaching for an entire year, along with accommodation and meals. The LN Maheshwari Paramarth Nyas provided free lodging and food, allowing him to focus entirely on his studies and work toward fulfilling both his own dream and his family’s aspirations.
Speaking about the initiative, Naveen Maheshwari, Trustee of LN Maheshwari Paramarth Nyas and founder of ALLEN, said that the programme was launched with the aim of identifying and supporting talented Hindi-medium students from government schools. When such students succeed, the impact extends far beyond a single family, it inspires society as a whole and gives hope to countless other children.
FROM A TWO-ROOM HOME TO A DOCTOR’S DREAM
Sagar’s father, Murli Regar, supports the entire family by going door to door collecting scrap. He said that his son had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, but their financial condition was so poor that paying for medical entrance coaching was impossible. Despite these challenges, Sagar’s hard work and determination never wavered. Timely support ultimately changed his life.
Sagar’s mother is a homemaker. After his father returns home with the collected scraps, she helps him sort it. The entire family lives in a modest two-room house. Sagar also has two younger sisters. The elder, Mansi, is studying Biology in Class 12, while the youngest, Ishika, is a Class 10 student.
Sagar says that had he not received this opportunity, preparing for the medical entrance examination would have been impossible, and he would have had no choice but to enroll in a BSc programme instead. Although his father is illiterate and his mother studied only up to Class 8, both understood the value of education. Despite severe financial hardships, they always encouraged their son to pursue his dreams.
Today, because of that encouragement, along with his perseverance and hard work, the son of a scrap collector stands on the threshold of becoming a doctor. His dream is no longer limited to building a better future for himself, it is also to guide society toward a brighter future by promoting education and spreading awareness about living a life free from substance abuse.
