The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has prohibited Dabur India from selling several food products carrying ‘100 per cent’ claims, saying such labelling is ambiguous, unverifiable and can mislead consumers.
The regulator said on Monday that it had issued a prohibition order against Dabur India Ltd over the sale of products including honey, apple cider vinegar, virgin coconut oil, sesame oil, cow ghee, coconut water and coconut milk carrying misleading ‘100 per cent’ claims.

FSSAI said products listed on Dabur’s website were found carrying claims such as ‘100 per cent Natural’, ‘100 per cent Pure’, ‘100 per cent Purity Guaranteed’, ‘100 per cent Organic’ and ‘100 per cent Tender Coconut Water’.
The regulator said such claims contravene the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018.
WHAT FSSAI FOUND
FSSAI said Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey were displaying the Jaivik Bharat Logo without valid FSSAI organic endorsement.
It also flagged Dabur Hommade Coconut Milk, which was marketed with the claim “100 per cent Purity”.
According to FSSAI, such a claim is not permissible for compound foods under the 2018 advertising and claims regulations.
The regulator said it had previously issued a notice to Dabur directing the company to discontinue misleading ‘100 per cent’ claims, but no satisfactory corrective action was taken.
FSSAI has now directed Dabur to immediately stop the sale of the food products identified in the notice, along with all other food products carrying misleading ‘100%’ claims.
The company has also been asked to submit an Action Taken Report within 15 days.
DABUR SAYS IT IS CHECKING WEBSITE CONTENT
Dabur said it had received the FSSAI notice and was reviewing the content referred to by the regulator.
“We have received the FSSAI notice and are in the process of checking the content mentioned in the notice on our website,” the company said in a statement.
The latest action comes as FSSAI has increasingly been using social media to publicise enforcement measures against food business operators and e-commerce companies selling food products online.
The regulator has also taken action involving several alcoholic beverage makers and energy drink manufacturers in recent months.
