Fremantle are embracing being the hunted on the biggest stage in the AFL, key forward Josh Treacy says.
The ladder-leading Dockers travel to play Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday – their last hit-out at the grand-final venue before the playoffs.
“I understand there is going to be a big narrative about it and us making the journey over there,” Treacy told reporters on Tuesday.
“It’s another opportunity for us to get out there and just play our best footy and, I guess, show the competition what we’re really about.”
The Dockers have won their past two games at the MCG, and five of their past eight.
And Treacy said despite Freo already having top spot locked away entering the finals, there was still much to play for.
“It’s always nice to get out on the ‘G, and growing up in Victoria and the hype about getting to play on the biggest stadium in Australia, it’s always exciting to have the opportunity to run out there,” he said.
“We’re comfortable anywhere we’re playing, to be honest.
“It’s just strong belief across the board that anywhere we have got to travel to, or even at home, that there’s a confidence within our group that we can win anywhere.”
The sixth-placed Demons are in a logjam of clubs that could either climb into the top four, or drop into the wildcard finals zone of positions seven to 10.
Melbourne are one win ahead of eighth spot, and one win behind fourth.
“Clearly they have been a good side this year,” Treacy said of the Demons.
“And we met this morning about what their best looks like and where we feel like we can get a hold of them.
“But it certainly won’t be an easy task, that’s for sure.”
