The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has dismissed claims that the government is planning to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), calling the reports “completely false and irresponsible”. The clarification came after remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, with the ministry stressing that no such proposal is under consideration.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said spreading incorrect information about aviation fuel could create unnecessary concern among air travellers.

NO PLAN TO MIX ETHANOL WITH ATF
In a statement, Naidu said the government has no proposal to blend ethanol with Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) used by commercial aircraft.
“The claim that the Government plans to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) is completely false and irresponsible. There is no such proposal,” the minister said.
He added that any suggestion linking ethanol with aviation fuel is incorrect and should not be treated as fact.
ETHANOL AND SAF ARE NOT THE SAME
The minister also clarified that ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are two completely different fuels and should not be confused with each other.
According to Naidu, SAF is an internationally recognised aviation fuel that has been certified for use in aircraft. It is approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and is being adopted by airlines and aviation authorities across the world.
Unlike ethanol, SAF is specially developed for aviation and undergoes extensive testing before it is approved for commercial use.
SAF MEETS GLOBAL SAFETY STANDARDS
Naidu said Sustainable Aviation Fuel is subject to rigorous testing and meets strict international safety standards before it can be used in aircraft.
He stressed that aviation safety is governed by well-established global norms and that any fuel used by airlines must comply with these standards.
GOVERNMENT SAYS PASSENGER SAFETY COMES FIRST
The Civil Aviation Minister urged people to avoid spreading misinformation about aviation safety, saying such claims can create needless anxiety among passengers.
“Spreading misinformation on aviation safety only creates needless anxiety among air travellers,” he said.
Reiterating the government’s stand, Naidu said passenger safety remains the government’s highest priority, and any decision related to aviation fuel would continue to be based on internationally accepted safety standards and scientific evaluation.
