Monica Barbaro thinks One Night Only “turns you on”.
The 36-year-old actress stars opposite Callum Turner in the new romcom movie, and she’s observed that the film is “more titillating than it is just overt sex”.
The brunette beauty told Interview magazine: “[Will Gluck, the director] really threaded the needle of having it be just sexy enough, just wholesome enough, and also ridiculous but grounded. It still feels like a rom-com, but it feels just dangerous enough.
“It’s absolutely rated R, but you don’t feel like you’re being pummelled with it. It turns you on, but it’s more titillating than it is just overt sex.”
The new movie also stars the likes of Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Molly Ringwald and Este Haim, and Monica loved working with the film’s star-studded cast.
The actress said: “I’ve screened this movie twice now at different stages of post. Both times, I remember feeling this surge of energy and feeling like I want to hang out with these people more.”
Monica reserved special praise for Callum, who plays her on-screen love interest in the movie.
She said: “He’s especially great in that he’s a cinephile, but also doesn’t take himself too seriously. You’re not fighting his ego to get him to listen to you. He rolls with the punches.”
Meanwhile, Monica has described herself as a “romantic”.
The actress – who is dating fellow movie star Andrew Garfield – also described herself as a “workaholic”.
Asked if she’s a romantic or a cynic, Monica told InStyle: “I’m a little bit of both. I feel like if you’re hard-up avoidant about love, it’s because, deep-down, you’re actually super romantic and you’re just afraid of getting hurt.
“I dip my toe in all ideologies around romance, but mostly I’m a romantic. I’m also kind of a workaholic, so I’ve never given my life over to it, which, as a woman, I’m quite proud of.
“But there’s also the other side of that coin, which is: You can get to a point in your life where you wake up and you look around and you’re sort of like, Oh, have I been self-protecting by [adopting] so much autonomy and independence?”
