Six people have been killed after a student opened fire at a school north of Bangkok on Friday morning.
The shooter has been identified as a 14-year-old boy in ninth grade at Debsirin Nonthaburi School. Police confirmed the shooter is also dead after taking his own life at the scene.
At least 15 people have also been injured, with two in a critical condition.
Photos from the scene show terrified kids running from the school.
One student told Reuters that he initially thought the gun shots were firecrackers.
“I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he told the media outlet.
“There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he was shocked by the tragedy.
“This is really bad, it shouldn’t have happened,” he said.
“I don’t just feel sorry for the victims but I feel sorry that this happened. How can this happen in our country.
“This is why the government do not allow (citizens) to posses firearms.”
