Aussie comic Julia Morris has shed light on the downfall of her 16-year marriage to comedian Dan Thomas, outlining some of the issues the pair faced before calling time on their relationship in mid-2022.

Speaking on the Life Uncut podcast with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, Morris admitted she should have noticed the red flags sooner.

“By our nature we were raised to be people-pleasers,” the TV personality said.

Morris, 58, joked she would heap praise on herself when affirmations were not forthcoming from Thomas.

“So if somebody is behaving . . . it starts out as a bit weird, like I remember my ex used to say he didn’t believe in compliments,” she said.

“I’d come downstairs once I was ready and stand in front of the mirror and go, ‘God, you look amazing’.”

The former pair married in 2005 and had been together for 20 years before announcing their separation.

They share daughters Ruby and Sophie, both of whom are rarely sighted publicly on her social media.

The long-standing I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! host said some of the behaviours she exhibited during her marriage were born out of an intent to set a good example for their children.

“I knew there was some ways I didn’t like being spoken to, but I also gave it back,” Morris continued.

“So it just became your normal,” Hockley said.

“It’s just, in showing the girls, I think I was more motivated by that. Like I’m not showing these women that this (his behaviour) is okay,” Morris added.

“Not only was I allowing my own self-confidence to be worn away, but the fighting’s boring. And also I never seemed to win, or I was always in trouble, or then I’d be sent out to work again. It’s exhausting.

The five-time Gold Logie nominee said she would often bring her stresses home from work, forcing her kids to tip-toe around her.

“Then when I’d get home, (it would) sort of be like, stay away from Mum because she’s tired and angry. I’m like, ‘Too f…… right. I am,” she continued.

Morris’ comments were shared as a teaser clip to an extended episode release set to drop on Saturday.

The mother and TV veteran had previously suggested the demise of her marriage spelled the end of her sex life.

“I think I’ve shut up shop, I think I’m done with roots,” she told former radio duo Kylie and Jackie O months into her separation.

“Before I got married, I had a go, don’t worry. It’s not like I’m missing out now that I’m back out there. I’m not back out there.”
