Adelaide great Taylor “Tex” Walker has called time on his illustrious career saying he will exit at the end of this season “with a great deal of pride, gratitude and a lifetime of memories”.
Walker will cap off his 19-year career with more than 700 goals and upwards of 315 games for the Crows, including a grand final appearance in 2017.
He captained the club for five seasons between 2015 and 2019 and received an all-Australian selection in 2023.
Walker said he was “grateful to have been able to live that life”
“As a young kid from Broken Hill, I dreamt about one day playing for the Crows,” he said in an announcement on Monday morning.
“I’ve shared the journey with so many great teammates, coaches and staff, as well as my family and friends, and I’m incredibly thankful for the role they’ve played in my career.
“I’m going to leave the game with a great deal of pride, gratitude and a lifetime of memories, not to mention an ongoing sense of belonging to the Crows community.”
Head coach Matthew Nicks described Tex as one who “led through actions not words”.
“He was prepared to stand up when things were going well and, importantly, he stood tall when they weren’t,” Nicks said.
“Everyone sees the goals and big moments but those who have worked closely with Tex know the care he has for his teammates, our coaches and staff, and the club.
“We thank Tex for everything he has given to the Club and game generally.”
Adelaide are an outside chance to lift the premiership this year in what would be Tex’s first flag, with the club currently sitting in fifth, outside of the top four only by 0.2 per cent with two rounds to go.
They take on Fremantle in Perth in the penultimate weekend of the season, before hosting the Giants at home to round out the season, giving fans a chance to farewell Walker before finals.
