Actor Emraan Hashmi has clarified that he is not playing veteran actor Mehmood in the upcoming RD Burman biopic, hours after reports claimed that he had been cast in the film. In a post on X, Hashmi rubbished the reports and revealed that he has not even been approached for the project.
“Just to clarify, the reports about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it,” the 47-year-old actor wrote.

The clarification came after Pinkvilla reported that Hashmi had been roped in to portray Mehmood in the RD Burman biopic. According to the report, the film will explore the veteran actor’s close friendship and creative association with the legendary music composer.
The report further claimed that the project is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to go on floors in September.
Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor will next be seen in Awarapan 2. The film also stars Disha Patani, Sikandar, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar in key roles. Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films present Awarapan 2, produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui.
The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026, with Pen Marudhar handling All India theatrical distribution.
