Mummy blogger and AFL WAG Bec Judd spends far more time posting on social media than her kids, but when it comes to including them on her colourful grid, she has one golden rule.
The Perth-raised mother of four, 43, has admitted separating family life with her career online can be difficult.
But as her kids have grown, she’s realised consent is key.
“I think being able to adapt and evolve is really important, especially as you go through different chapters of your life, from having little babies to older kids,” she told news.com.au.
“When they’re little, they want to be included, but when they get older, they don’t as much.
“It’s so important to respect that, know the boundaries around what I do and don’t share online, and always, always ask permission from them.”
Married to former Carlton and Eagles champion Chris, the pair share son Oscar, 15, daughter Billie, 12, and twin sons Tom and Darcy, 9.
In years gone by, Bec has actively included her children in brand partnerships and content opportunities, where appropriate.
Now, as they show varying signs of interest, the Jaggad activewear co-founder is careful about how she approaches the subject.
Bec admitted her eldest Oscar — a “role model” to his three siblings — does not feel as comfortable online as his mother.
“I swear he’s the only kid at his school not on Snapchat,” she said, adding, “Honestly, it’s so good, he’s never asked for it, and he doesn’t want it.”
The podcaster said her default now is to exclude her children from the camera, as their forthcoming response is a predictable one.
Her younger kids are also acutely aware that access to social media will only be allowed once they’re old enough.
“As they get older, I don’t even ask the older kids if they want to be included anymore because I know it’s a no,” Bec explained.
“For Oscar’s 15th birthday, I just posted a photo of 15 balloons because I already knew his answer.”
The Judd family recently returned to Melbourne after several weeks on holiday in Broome, which has become an annual trip and opportunity to catch up with WA-based friends.
“Cable Beach never disappoints,” Bec said of the group’s regular hangout.
