Oz Lotto’s $40m jackpot has gone off with two winning tickets sharing a huge life-changing division one prize.
A lucky winner from Hobart and a mystery winner from Hervey Bay will take home $20m each after selecting Tuesday night’s winning numbers.
“Holy smokes,” a tearful Hobart man said when he learned about his $20m prize.
The Tasmanian man was oblivious he won until an official from The Lott called him immediately after the draw.
“Wow. Unbelievable.” he exclaimed.
“That is life-changing. It’s come at a really good time.
“I’ll paint you a really good picture of what that means for us. We’ve been renting and have been looking for another house to move to. This is like – now we’ll just buy a house.
“I’m also getting close to retirement so that’s something we can look at now. We’ll probably do some travelling overseas too. I’ve always wanted to go to Texas and Arizona.
“Holy smokes. I appreciate the call. Geez, I’m shocked. I’m so happy. It’s just a weight off your shoulders.
“You’re god.”
His winning ticket almost didn’t happen at all. He was held up at work and made a last-ditch run to the Sorrell Lucky Agency and bought an entry he wouldn’t normally play, just before the doors closed for the night.
“I struggled to get to the newsagent tonight. I was late from work and got there in time – a couple of minutes before closing,” he explained.
“I also normally play a standard QuickPick ticket, but this time, we filled out the form. My partner picked some numbers and I added some.”
A Hervey Bay resident or visitor has also become an overnight multi-millionaire, but may not realise it.
The elusive Queenslander held an unregistered ticket that scored $20m.
The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said he encouraged Hervey Bay players to check their tickets and make contact with The Lott as soon as possible.
“You may not think it’s possible you’re the $20 million Oz Lotto winner we’re searching for, but if you purchased an entry into tonight’s draw that you haven’t checked yet, you’re in with a chance!
“We’re urging all Hervey Bay players to check their entries as soon as possible. If you discover you are holding the division one winning ticket, please contact The Lott on 131 868 to begin the process of claiming your prize.”
The entry was purchased at Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency at Urraween.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1695 were 2, 19, 27, 35, 7, 22 and 30, while the supplementary numbers were 37, 41 and 32.
