A Subiaco man could spend the rest of his life behind bars in a Balinese prison after a police raid on his villa.
WA man Sean Miller fronted a Bali court on Thursday after being charged with multiple drug offences — including a trafficking charge which carries a life sentence.
The 50-year-old has also been accused of possessing drugs for personal usage.
PerthNow understands the man was arrested on April 5 after specialist drug officers allegedly discovered 600 milligrams of methamphetamine inside a room of his West Denpasar guest home.
Police received a tip from an anonymous source prior to the raid, claiming the man was selling drugs from the property.
A glass pipe and bong were also found in the home during the police search.
Mr Miller first denied the charges against him in April following his arrest, where he had a simple message for local reporters.
“Stay away from drugs, people,” he told Balinese media while being walked to court.
Mr Miller returned to court on Thursday for the beginning of his trial, with the prosecutor telling the court that the accused man had “without right or unlawfully offering for sale, selling, purchasing, receiving, brokering the sale or purchase of, exchanging, or delivering narcotics.”
After Thursday’s hearing, Mr Miller adamantly denied the charges to reporters outside the Denpasar District Court.
“I don’t need to sell drugs,” he was reported saying.
He declined to comment when he was asked if he had been set up for the crime.
The Bali trial will resume next week, where witnesses are expected to be called to the stand.
Indonesia has some of the strictest drug laws in the world, with individuals facing severe penalties including life imprisonment and even execution if caught with prohibited substances.
