For years, festive hiring in India has been dominated by delivery executives, warehouse workers and retail sales staff. That picture is beginning to change.

The latest TeamLease Festive Season Workforce Report 2026 says companies are creating a new generation of frontline jobs as quick commerce, automation and faster deliveries reshape the festive shopping season.

While traditional roles will continue to account for the biggest share of recruitment, employers are increasingly looking for workers who can handle specialised operational responsibilities and adapt to technology-driven workplaces.

THE NEW FESTIVE JOBS TO WATCH

According to the report, delivery associates, warehouse executives, retail sales associates, cashiers and customer support executives remain the backbone of festive recruitment.

Alongside them, companies are expanding hiring for quick commerce dark store associates, inventory and fulfilment coordinators, warehouse automation operators, and quality check and returns management executives.

Emerging job role What the job entails
Quick Commerce Dark Store Associates Manage inventory, pick and pack orders, and support fast fulfilment operations inside neighbourhood dark stores.
Inventory & Fulfilment Coordinators Coordinate inventory movement and ensure timely processing and dispatch of customer orders across fulfilment operations.
Warehouse Automation Operators Operate and support automated warehouse systems to improve efficiency and order processing.
Quality Check & Returns Management Executives Inspect returned products, conduct quality checks, and manage returns and reverse logistics processes.

These roles have emerged as retailers strengthen fulfilment networks and improve order accuracy during peak shopping periods.

The report also identifies warehouse and fulfilment personnel, along with store operations and retail associates, as the highest-volume hiring categories during the festive season. Field sales executives, fashion associates, in-store promoters and technical specialists also continue to see strong demand.

EMPLOYERS WANT MORE THAN JUST EXTRA HANDS

Hiring strategies are changing too. Instead of simply filling vacancies, employers are investing in paperless digital onboarding, allowing candidates to complete documentation in hours instead of days.

Companies are also cross-training employees so they can perform multiple operational tasks, such as combining store promotion with inventory management, while deploying workers closer to fulfilment centres and dark stores to reduce commute-related delays.

SKILLS ARE BECOMING AS IMPORTANT AS AVAILABILITY

One of the report’s biggest findings is that employers are not expecting a shortage of workers this festive season. Their bigger challenge is ensuring recruits are ready to start immediately, possess basic digital literacy and can become productive within a short period of time.

As India’s festive shopping ecosystem becomes faster and more technology-driven, seasonal hiring is also evolving.

The newest opportunities are no longer limited to delivering parcels or billing customers. Increasingly, they involve managing inventory, supporting automated warehouses and keeping quick commerce operations running smoothly during the busiest shopping months of the year.
