Lindsay Price was quick to offer her help to son Hudson when he landed a starring role in Camp Rock 3.
Hudson Stone is the son of Lindsay and her husband, celebrity chef Curtis Stone, and is playing Desi in the new Disney Channel movie, alongside the Jonas Brothers.
And while Hudson has inevitably had to battle “nepo baby” assumptions, he said he feels lucky that Beverly Hills, 90210 star Lindsay is his mother – because he can turn to her if he needs acting advice.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “I’ve always aspired to [be like] her because she’s my mom — same with my dad. But she’s always said, ‘If you love something [or] if you want to do something, I’m never going to stop you and do whatever you want to do. You could be an investment banker for all I care and I’d be more than happy.’
“So when I got this job, it was such a bonus. She said, ‘Oh my gosh, guess what, Hudson? I can help you because I did this too.’”
While Hudson initially auditioned for the part of Fletch, he ended up being cast as Desi, with director Veronica Rodriguez saying his “star power” was clear to see from the first second of his audition.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “Desi was completely crafted for Hudson Stone. Hudson came to us on video and he read some lines.
“And even though the lines he was reading were for a boy that was a bit older than him and didn’t really fit his character…. His star power — that word’s loaded, but it’s true — his star power was undeniable.”
The thing that solidified Hudson’s casting as Desi was the chemistry he had with Liamani Segura, who plays his on-screen sister Sage.
Liamani added to EW: “In the audition room, he was playing Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur and I literally started singing along. I kid you not.
“There were eight of us in the room — three Desis and two Sages. He and I really just connected. It was a really special moment.”
Camp Rock 3, which also features a cameo appearance from original Camp Rock star Demi Lovato, is available to watch on the Disney Channel now.
