Another pretty lifeless hour of cricket from the Australians then, those two wickets far from enough to turn the tide of this game.

It’s Mitchell Starc back into the attack after drinks, and he’s challenging Mehidy with some short stuff.

Mehidy is swaying out of the way and then ducking.

Starc brings his length forward and the Bangladeshi allrounder is comfortable in prodding into the off-side.

Down the legside, through to Carey and that’s a desperate appeal from the Australians.

And they send it upstairs, despite not a single fielder looking convinced the decision will be changed.

FOUR! Swinging hard is Mehidy and he gets a bit on it, enough to take it over the top of the wicketkeeper and down to the finest of fine leg boundaries.

Square leg is coming in, and Mehidy has another swing! This time he makes better contact but with the bottom edge, the ball bouncing to Hazlewood, who shapes to throw down the stumps to keep Mehidy in his crease.

Not tidy., but Mehidy cuts a ball that was angled into him and would have gone over a fourth stump on the leg side, but gets it past gully for a single.

Taskin defends the last into the off side, down to deep backward point but doesn’t take the run.

Mehidy is on strike, will he start to swing a bit more now the tail are in?

There is a fly slip in lace, two normal slips and a gully as Mehidy leaves outside off.

Fly slip has gone back to third man now as Starc comes in again, with a bouncer, that Mehidy gets under, tempted to have a swing at it but wisely pulling out of that shot.

EDGED! Over the top of the slips, an fly slip would have gobbled that up had he still been in position there, but now the ball falls to third man and they take a single.

Taskin backs away and exposes all three stumps but still defends the ball nicely.

SIX! My goodness! Taijul has shown those supple wrists again, clipping the ball off his pads with a wonderfully timed shot for six to deep backward square! That’s an incredible shot! David Warner in the Fox commentary box is purring at that, and the Bangladesh bench, who had a great view of that ball bouncing in front of them, are up and about too. What a shot.

Taijul hammers the ball into the covers and, hang on, has Marnus Labuschagne claimed a catch here? I mean, you can’t believe a single thing that he says out there on the field, so I don’t know why we’d be honouring his word. The umpires are having a look. That wasn’t ever even close to being a catch? He’s slammed that into the ground. Marnus came up holding the ball like he’s claimed a prize at the fair. That’s trash from Marnus, absolute trash behaviour.

Taijul has proven he is a man of the subcontinental batting school, some nice flicky wrists through the covers, but this time he flicks to midwicket for no run.

He’s not going to die trying here, is Taijul, he’s looking to hit everything, but no erratically. Just looking to score.

OUCH! That’s a nasty one. He cops one on the finger from Starc, which follows him. He was hit there in the warm up game that meant he was unable to bowl in the second innings of that game. That, at 141km/h from Mitch Starc, no doubt would have hurt just as much.

SHOT! Three runs for Taijul and that won’t improve the rambunctious mood of Josh Hazlewood, driving past mid off with a very nice stroke.

Mehidy now gets in on the act, a neat push square for a single.

Taijul pushes into the covers and there’s no run there, Marnus Lanuschagne, mouth mercifully closed this time, making the good sprawling stop.

Hazlewood follows a backing away Taijul there, who defends the ball down in front of him, wary of the bat pad away to his right.

Solid defence from Taijul, who then scampers through for a run. Hazlewood’s blood will be absolutely boiling at that, as he stares at his opponent.

CLOSE! Bouncer, Mehidy swings hard but misses everything. There were two men back, and Mehidy was still taking it on. You love to see it.

BEATEN! A push by Taijul that, inexplicably, Marnus appeals for a catch off. He missed it by a solid six inches there – ridiculous carry on from Marnus – as one would expect.

Taijul wants a single but that would have been foolish so he runs back after a couple of steps.

The Aussies are making great use of their sub fielder, who has been out there almost constantly since the start of play. Why? Cricket’s 11-a-side. Why have a specialist fielder out there in the first half hour of the day? It’s Jake Weatherald who is off now, Nathan Lyon was off before. It’s not in the spirit of the game for me.

Two slips, gully and a bat pad now for Cummins, this is obviously the plan for Mehidy, who is 33 off 77 balls.

Another good, solid defensive stroke from Mehidy, who takes a single. He was trying to protect Hasan at the back end of the day yesterday but Hasan has been very good in his own right here.

Bouncer from Cummins, but not a good one, Hasan just nods his head to get under it.

The three slips and the gully rise as one to clap as Cummins forces Hasan to play at another one. Cummins, whenever he’s bowling, never gives players any time to relax, they have to play an awful lot of the balls that come their way.

Hasan clips off his pads and gets a single. That’s his first run in 36 balls.

Mehidy is only given one slip, and the other goes back to third man on the fly, a bouncer is sent down by Cummins and it’s a great ball, Mehidy handles it well, leaning and swaying back like a heavily padded yoga instructor.
