Teenage Socceroos defender Lucas Herrington has made his maiden appearance for newly promoted English Premier League club Hull City in a pre-season clash against French top-flight outfit OGC Nice.

Herrington, 18, last week joined Hull from American Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids on a five-year deal reportedly worth a record transfer fee for an Australian player of $33 million.

Ahead of a potential Premier League debut this Saturday night (AEST) against Manchester United, the former Brisbane Roar centre-back came on for the final half an hour of Hull’s 0-0 weekend trial draw with Nice at MKM Stadium.

Herrington was among 10 second-half replacements made by Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic.

“There were a lot of good things and also some things we have to fix,” Jakirovic said.

“It’s not easy in friendly games because the preparation is not 100 per cent.

“We had very nice opportunities in the first-half. Maybe we should have scored at least one goal.”

Meanwhile, former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou has made a successful start as coach of Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

Despite the absence of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Postecoglou’s team opened its title defence with a 3-0 weekend win over Al-Fateh in Riyadh.

“We have a strong team, and there are important players who did not take part today,” former Tottenham and Celtic manager Postecoglou said.

“What matters to me is that all the players who did take part, whether they started the match or came on during it, delivered a wonderful performance.”

Al-Nassr return to action on Wednesday morning (AEST) in a King’s Cup clash against Diriyah.
