Six people, including five minors, drowned in three separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, Maharajganj and Jhansi districts on Sunday, police said.
The deaths were reported from a village pit, a river near a barrage and a pond where the victims had gone to bathe.
In Deoria, two boys died after drowning in a pit, while in Maharajganj, a youth and a teenager drowned in the Rohin River.

In Jhansi, two minor girls, who were relatives, died after drowning in a pond while they were out grazing goats with other children, according to police.
The Deoria incident took place at around 2 pm in Balesar Mathia village, where a group of children had gone to bathe in a pit.
Khukhundu SHO Rahul Singh said, “Two minors drowned while bathing. Other children raised an alarm, following which villagers passing by rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them.”
VILLAGERS HELPED BUT COULDN’T SAVE: POLICE
Police said villagers pulled the two children out of the water, but they could not be saved. Singh said the families refused a post-mortem examination and later buried the bodies.
In Maharajganj, the incident was reported at around 4.30 pm near gate 3 of Rohin Barrage in the Parsamalik police station area. Police said Prince Verma, both residents of Mahuawa village, drowned while bathing in the Rohin River.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and, with the help of divers, recovered both bodies from the river. Circle Officer Nautanwa and other police personnel were present at the spot, while further legal proceedings were underway, SHO Vivek Singh said.
JHANSI INCIDENT INVOLVED TWO MINORS
In Jhansi, the incident took place in Kanja Chitawan village in the Mauranipur area. Police said the girls had gone to bathe in a pond with some other children while grazing goats.
People from a nearby Kali temple rushed to help after hearing their cries.
Two children were pulled out of the water, but a nine-year-old girl and her eight-year-old cousin were taken to hospital unconscious and were declared dead by doctors, police said.
Mauranipur SHO Mukesh Kumar Solanki said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation was underway.
The three incidents in Deoria, Maharajganj and Jhansi left six people dead, including five minors, with police carrying out legal formalities and investigation in the cases.
