Melania Trump had a passion for race cars when she was younger.

The 56-year-old First Lady – who is married to US president Donald Trump – attended the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. on Sunday (23.08.26) and she “loved every minute” of the race because its something she’s been a fan of since she grew up in Sevnica, Slovenia.

Speaking during a live interview with Fox Sports commentator Jamie Little, she said: “When I was growing up, my father introduced me to races and to race cars, and he owned some incredible cars — [including] a Maserati, Cougar, Mustang, Mercedes. So he introduced me to the design of cars, and the mechanics, and also the speed.”

Melania went on to discuss her pride in her Fostering the Future initiative, which is designed to help young people in and ageing out of the foster care system by focusing on education, employment and financial independence.

She said: “Fostering the Future provides scholarships at the university level within [the] foster care community. And it’s very important, because we need to support them.

“They need to have the same opportunities as other children, and I’m very proud to say that we had the first doctor graduating, and we now have 26 universities all around the country that have foster students [as a result of the initiative].

“I encourage every governor in every state to sign in and support foster children.”

Earlier this year, Melania declared herself to be a “visionary”.

Speaking during a White House Women’s History Month event in March, she said: “As a visionary, I know success is not born overnight, but rather takes shape after a long and sometimes challenging process.

“Often alone at the top, I follow my passion, listen to my instinct, and always maintain a laser focus.

“In solitude, my creative mind dances, filling my imagination with originality. Attention to detail, demanding schedules, and multi-tasking are everyday realities when building towards success.

“That principle resonates across all my roles, as a mother, humanitarian, philanthropist and entrepreneur as well as with my new film where I shaped its creative direction, served as a producer, managed post production and activated the marketing campaign.”
