Norwegian World Cup hero Erling Haaland has sent the internet into raptures after unveiling his drastic hair transformation.
The Manchester City forward is recognised for his long blonde hair akin to a “Viking”, but those days are now behind him, with the global icon shaving off his mane to coincide with the commencement of the Premier League season.
“This beautiful blonde hair . . . time to let it go,” he declared in behind-the-scenes footage of the day.
The 26-year-old said he had been warned by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a fellow soccer icon, that would lose all of his power should he trim his luscious locks.
But that didn’t stop the insatiable striker, who had been considering how fans might address the look.
“Cant wait for the fans to see,” he said, suggesting they might chant, “Who the f…… hell is that?’”
Documenting the haircut progress, Haaland’s girlfiend Isabel Haugseng Johansen wasn’t initially pleased.
“I think I would cry,” she said, before later admitting she thought the finished cut looked “really cute”.
Haaland posted the progress pics of his haircut to Instagram, where star players from across the world had their say.
“No way,” English star Jude Bellingham said, with his comment garnering more than one million likes.
Brazilian star Vinícius Júnior simply said, “Nice”.
“New season, new hair,” Manchester City’s page commented.
However, not all fans were convinced.
“An angel lost his wings,” one said.
“Noooooooooo😭😭😭😭” another said.
One more added: “NOOOOOOOOOOO WHY”.
Haaland debuted his new look on Sunday for Manchester City’s match against Bournemouth.
